Claudette Kelley Obituary

Claudette Daughety Kelley, 70, of Kinston, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2013 at Kitty Askin's Hospice Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. Claudette was born and raised in Kinston, attended Lenoir County Schools and graduated from Grainger High School. After beginning her career as a Nursing Assistant in Pediatrics at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in 1971, she received her certification in Histology from Duke University, and transferred to the laboratory, working in pathology as a Histology Technician. She was honored as a recipient of the President's Excellence Service Award in May of 2011 and again in July 2011 as the PESA quarterly winner. She was inducted into Lenoir Memorial Hospital's prestigious Hall of Honor in 2011. She attended Faith Fellowship in Kinston.

Born on September 9, 1942, Claudette was the daughter of the late Claude and Lillie Wilkins. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Jimmy West Daughety and Charles Spencer Kelley; niece, Claudia Faye Smith; and foster brother, Dennis Franklin.

Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Faith Fellowship Church with Dr. Randy Spaugh and Pastor John Robert Harris officiating. Visitation will follow the service.

Survivors include her son, Danny Daughety and wife Jenny and granddaughter Lilli, all of Kinston; sister, Carole Perry King of LaGrange, sister, Gail Smith and husband George of Kinston; nieces, Wanda Brinson, Mary Smith and Norma Smith; nephews, Scott Daughety, Kevin Daughety, Gilbert Perry, and George Smith; great-nieces, Jenna Smith, Ashley Perry and Mackenzie Perry; great-nephews, Brandon Rouse and Noah Rouse; and treasured friends, Jo Anne Jones of Kinston and Gloria Wallace of Cape Carteret.

The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Watson and his staff as well as the wonderful nursing staff in the Oncology Unit at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
