Ned Murry Stroud, Jr., 70, passed away on July 4, 2018. He is continually cherished by his wife of 49 years, Linda Lee Stroud; daughter Melissa Cobb, husband Randy and children Randall, Kayla and Caroline; and son, Murry Stroud, wife Amy, and daughter Anna Cecil, all of Winterville.
A native of Kinston, Ned was born July 21, 1947 to Ned Murry Stroud, Sr. and Elsie Croom Stroud. His memory will be continually held by his sisters Judith Cummings and Alice Faye Boone of Kinston, Vicki Heath of Fort Barnwell, their families, and community friends.
Ned was stationed in Germany serving in the US Army shortly after marrying his life-long love Linda on September 22, 1968. Kinston was Ned’s home for the majority of his life, where he was involved in North Lenoir Volunteer Fire Department, BSA Troop 43, and additional emergency management community service initiatives. He loved spending time with family, laughing over great memories, helping others dream about what could be, and using his characteristic wit to help others see things with a different perspective and level of understanding.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Garner Funeral Home. A celebration of Ned’s life, officiated by Dr. Randy Cobb, will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Garner Funeral Home followed by graveside services at Westview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial gifts in Ned’s memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, c/o Ned Stroud Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 4527
