On Thursday, May 17, we lost someone very dear to us. Rosa B. Skinner, 82, of Kinston passed away at UNC Lenoir Health Care. She was battling liver failure for some time and she battles no more.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Heber and Louise Burkett of Kinston.
She was a member of Queen Street United Methodist Church. Rosa retired from the Kinston Free Press after 43 years of service. She was an avid bowler back in the Sportlanes days and enjoyed time on the White Oak River. All of us have enjoyed our time with Rosa. Some have had more time with her than others, but she will be greatly missed by all.
Rosa is survived by her husband of 62 years, George E. Skinner of the home; son, Tony Skinner and wife Brenda; daughter, Lynn Townsend and husband Sam; grandchildren, Edward Race and wife Ericka, Blake Townsend and wife Ashlee, Tyler Skinner and wife Stephanie and Tonya Taylor; great-grandchildren, Greyson Townsend, Henley Skinner, Mckenzie Mills and Gage Allen; sisters, Shirley Hoover and Mary Bell; 2 mourning pets, Dixie and Max; sisters-in-law, Doris Ann Sutton and husband Lynwood and Mary Grace Jackson and husband Gerald. She was blessed with loving nephews, Danny Hoover and wife Carol and David Pope and wife Dotti. A loving niece, Becky Lanier and husband Cecil, great nephew Riley Hoover, great nieces Jessica Locke and husband Chris, Melanie Pope and Marissa Pope, great-great nephew, Boggie.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, May 21, 2018, at Queen Street United Methodist Church. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Karl Grant officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
