Anthony “Tony” David Hines, 59, of Kinston passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro surrounded by his wife and daughter.
Tony was a graduate of Greene Central High School in the class of 1982. He coached the soccer team for the Lenoir County Recreation Department and was commonly known as “Coach Hines”. Tony was also helping coach at Bethel Christian Academy. All of the kids that he coached loved him. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and loved wrestling. Tony loved NASCAR and he was a fan of Richard Petty. He was an active choir member and was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Kinston. Tony enjoyed making jokes and loved getting people to laugh.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester Hines, Sr. and Thelma Hines; sister, Barbara Bello; brother, Lester Hines, Jr. and nephew, Kevin Vinson.
Tony is survived by his wife, Debbie Hines of the home; daughter, Brittany Hines of the home; son, Jonathan Hines and wife Becca of Salisbury; grandchild, Jonah Hines of Salisbury; sisters, Brenda Blackmon and Gayle Stocks both of Snow Hill; brother, Carlton Hines and wife Lois of Kinston; sisters-in-law, Kathy Katzenberger and husband Greg of Lynwood, WA, Jean Hines of Snow Hill; numerous nieces and nephews; several cousins; special friends, Jeff and Felicia Hussey of Pikeville and many others.
The visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Garner Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Garner Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Hoover officiating. The burial will be held following the funeral service at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
