Betty Lou (Outlaw) Andrews

Betty Lou Outlaw Andrews, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 11, 2025. The daughter of W. D. (Mutt) and Lora Outlaw, she was born on August 5, 1937, in Kinston, North Carolina. The oldest of five children, Betty Lou grew up surrounded by the warmth and charm of her hometown, and spent much of her adult life in High Point, Burlington, and Emerald Isle.  

She was married to Clyde Andrews, building a life together, they raised three children, nurturing them with her boundless care and affection. Her family was the centerpiece of her life, and her love for them was evident in all she did.

Betty Lou retired from Alamance-Burlington Schools, where she followed her passion for baking and later served as the dedicated cafeteria manager at Turrentine Middle School. She was admired by colleagues and students alike for her warmth, hard work, and the joy she brought to her role.

A faithful member of St. Mark’s Community Church in Burlington, NC, Betty Lou’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She found strength and solace in her church community, and her kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Betty Lou’s biscuits were legendary, a testament to her love of baking and sharing her creations with others. She also had a passion for shopping, finding joy in discovering treasures and sharing them with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Andrews, and her cherished grandson, Wil Andrews. Betty Lou’s memory will be carried on by her three children: Glenn Andrews (Cheri), Wayne Andrews, and Susan Andrews Wilkie (David); her grandchildren: Amanda Andrews Sparks (Drew), Kate Wilkie, Anna Wilkie, and Charlotte Wilkie; and her great-grandchildren: Keegan and Oliver Daurity.  She is also survived by a brother, Cecil Outlaw, many nieces and nephews, and cherished friends.  She was preceded in death by her brothers, J. E. Outlaw and William D. (Goofy) Outlaw, and her beloved sister, Sybil Outlaw Pate.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Betty’s caregivers at Spring Arbor Kinston’s Memory Care for their love and care over the past two years, as well as to Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate support.

A celebration of Betty Lou’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18th, at 11:00 am at Garner Funeral Home. Friends and family are welcome. A lunch will follow the service at King’s BBQ in Kinston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, in her memory. A private family burial will be held later.
