(Charles) Rex Sullivan passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Vident Medical Center in Greenville, NC. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, father Dempsey Sullivan and mother Gladys Westbrook. Rex’s surviving family include his wife, Doris Hardison, his daughter Kay Redding of Seattle, Washington; his brother Stan Sullivan and Stan’s wife Linda of Kinston; and nephews Steve Sullivan and Michael Sullivan. Rex will also be mourned and missed by the children and grandchildren of his wife, Doris.
Rex was a long-time employee in the trucking industry and retired from Yellow Freight Company in the ‘90’s. In his retired years, he met, fell in love with, and married Doris Hardison. Together they loved to travel and spend time with friends and family. For many years, Rex and Doris were dedicated members of Wendell United Methodist Church, where they were active in their Sunday school class and Meals-on-Wheels ministry until they moved back home to Kinston to be closer to family. Rex also loved his NC State Wolfpack.
The family will hold a graveside service Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Pinelawn Memorial Park at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the NC National Guard Education Foundation, 7410 Chapel Hill Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.
