Christopher, “Chris” Jones, 53, passed away on the 26th of September 2022 in Newport, NC. Born the 27th of January 1969, in Kinston, NC, he was the youngest child of Ralph C. Jones and Brenda L. Jones.
After graduating from South Lenoir High School in Deep Run, NC in 1987, he joined the Air Force where he served during Desert Storm. At the end of 4 years, he returned to his family in Kinston, NC, then moved to Elm City and went into business with his brother, Ronnie, building fences. Then he decided he enjoyed helping people in his community, so he signed up for BLET in Wilson and accepted a position with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department where he served 4 years. From there, he moved to the Wilson Police Department and retired in 2014. After retiring from the police department, he moved to the coast to enjoy the quiet peacefulness of the ocean.
He spent his lifetime as a community leader, outstanding citizen, and gracious humanitarian. His passion was leading the explorers, “Wolverines.” where he taught, mentored, guided, counseled, and fathered teens into becoming upstanding young adults with respect and values. He considered them his extended family.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, 2 children, his father, Ralph C. Jones, 2 brothers: Ronnie Stroud and Ralph Jones, and 1 sister; Wilma Rhue, and his faithful companion and service dog, Ranger. He was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda L. Jones, and sister, Renette Jones.
The family is grateful for all the wonderful caregivers. These include Carteret Health, the entire group of 3HC hospice nurses and caregivers and the Crystal Coast Hospice Care Center.
