Donna J. Maxey, 67, resident of Comfort, North Carolina passed away from natural causes in her home on Friday June 3rd, 2022. She was born Donna Catherine Stroud in Kinston, North Carolina on May 3rd, 1955; the second child of four, to the late J.C. and Hazel Stroud. After her family moved to Comfort in 1971 she graduated from Jones Senior High School in 1973 and married Jimmy R. Jones (changed her name to Donna S. Jones). After Jimmy’s passing in 1984, Donna later started a family (changed her name to Donna J. Maxey) and had two sons Daniel, born in 1986, and Thomas born in 1988.
In order to spend more time with her children, she established Rainbow Childcare Center in Trenton, N.C. which has been in operation for 36 years and remains an integral part of the community Donna served. She provided care for countless families and her passion for the care of children was radiant and seemingly limitless. Donna was a mother, a sister, a daughter, a mentor, a friend, and a supportive “arm across the shoulder” to many. She was a rock of encouragement and a listening ear and made no qualms about shouldering the burden of others. She was grace manifest and wore her gracious and loving heart on her easy and contagious smile. Her absence will be felt in the hearts of everyone she has touched, but the love and example she has left us all with will shine on forever.
She is survived by her two sons Johnathan Daniel Maxey and family, residing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Thomas Allen Maxey and family, residing in Raleigh. She was a mother to Brenda Miranda and her family who reside in Georgia. She was the younger sister of Johnny Stroud of Mooresville, and the older sister to both Wanda Davis of Pink Hill and David Stroud of Comfort.
She would tell you not to allow grief to swallow you after her passing, instead we should endeavour to “keep our chins up” and remember her for how beautiful she was.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at Garner Funeral Home in Kinston, North Carolina at 1:00 pm Saturday 18th of June 2022.
