Dorothy "Dot" (Stroud) Tucker

Dorothy “Dot” Jane Stroud Tucker, 78, of Kinston, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023.  She was born on May 9, 1945 to Blaney Stroud and Estelle Haynes Stroud.  

After graduating from Deep Run High School, Dorothy married the love of her life Richard Allen Tucker, Sr, on October 24, 1964.  Together, they built a wonderful life centered around God and family.  Dot was an active member and trustee of Jackson Heights Original Free Will Baptist Church where she also served as church treasurer for many years.  Always displaying a warm and friendly smile, she took great pride in serving others and faithfully assisted with a variety of church functions.  A devoted Christian mother and grandmother, Dot found great joy in caring for and spending time with her grandchildren.  Dot retired from the City of Kinston after 35 years as an Administrative Assistant.  

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Colby Smith Tucker, as well as several brothers and a sister; Furney Stroud, Harold Stroud, Ira (Babe) Stroud, Walter Stroud, and Elizabeth Ann Taylor.  

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Richard; son Richard “Ricky” Allen Tucker, Jr. and wife Jan of Kinston; son Michael Joe Tucker and wife Elizabeth of Greenville; granddaughter Mary-Ashlyn Tucker of Greensboro, and granddaughter Arya Scout Tucker of Greenville.  She is also survived by one sister, Estelle Formica of Yorktown Heights, NY; one brother, James Stroud of Farmville, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

A funeral service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held at Jackson Heights Original Free Will Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 7:00pm.  Visitation will precede the funeral service beginning at 5:30pm at the church. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11am at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
