Duane "Dink" Carroll Whitley, Sr, 68, of Swansboro, NC passed away on May 19, 2022.
An infamous homebody, Dink liked to be out in the yard or in his shop when he was younger. A man of few words, a sharp look from his blue eyes could convey a quick message -- humorous (or otherwise). When he did choose to speak, he had thoughtful advice, life-informed opinions, and keen insight. His dry sense of humor was fantastically funny (but left more than one person scratching their heads, wondering if he was serious). He liked to watch "the tube," specifically the Big Bang TV show and the news, when he was older. He enjoyed discussing current events, family affairs, and daily life with his family and friends. He loved horses and dogs, worked hard and played hard, and didn't give in easily at the end. He was courageous and tenacious, and a formidable foe in his final fight.
Dink is preceded in death by his mother Magalene Whitley, father Frederick "Fred" Whitley, and brother Joseph "Joey" Whitley.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Angel Whitley; son Duane "Little Dink" Whitley Jr and wife Maranda "Mandy" Whitley; grandchildren Sadie Whitley, Michael Whitley, Abigale "Abbie" Whitley, Axel Whitley, and Austin Whitley; sister Kathryn Jones and husband Zebedee Jones; and brother Freddy Whitley, as well as extended family and many friends.
