Edward Eugene (Gene) Howard of 3571 Daughety-White Road, Kinston, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at his daughter’s home.
A native of Lenoir County Gene was born February 5, 1937 and was the only son of the late Randolph and Mildred Watson Howard. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Peggy Hill Howard. Gene is survived by his daughter, Pamela Howard Clifton and husband Lindsey, grandson John Allen Faulkner and wife Brittney, great-grandchildren, Lilly, Zoey, Sophie and Forest. He is also survived by his life-long friend and companion, Jane Langston Jackson. He left behind many special cousins, nieces, and nephews to cherish his memory.
Gene proudly served his country with the US Army and loved eagles and flags. Always a lover of fast, shiny cars and trucks he spent most of his time transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Known as “Rickshaw” on the CB radio, he enjoyed talking and joking with his CB buddies from all around the country.
His mechanical talents served him well as an automotive mechanic, earning him many Chevrolet and BMW certifications and awards. Prior to his retirement he served as a forklift mechanic for the Kinston DuPont Plant, employed by The CCW Group.
Gene was a founding member of Sand Hill Volunteer Fire Department and served in many capacities at the fire department over the years.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private burial will be held at British Chapel FWB Church cemetery.
