Essie Haynes, age 84, of Kinston, passed away peacefully in her home on December 10th, 2023, surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 4, 1939, and is preceded in death by her parents, James (Jim) and Odie Brinkley Elmore and preceded in death by her husband of 34 years., Rupert Taylor, and their sons; Richard and Carroll Taylor and her husband of 30 years, Charles Haynes and also preceded in death by her sister; Letha Elmore, brothers; David, Sidney, Johnny, and James Elmore.
Essie is survived by her daughter; Michelle Carter and companion Craig Shirley, grandchildren; Heather Thigpen and husband Justin, Ashley Carter and husband Justin Warren, great-grandchildren; Kadence, Carter and Caroline Thigpen, sisters, Annie Pearson, Betty Westbrook and Leafy West, brother; Jerry Elmore, sister-in-law; Faye Elmore and Rosalee Elmore.
She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and an active volunteer at multiple nursing homes and church visitations. Essie worked at Roses Department Store for 32 years, Dr. R.E. Hartsell for 6 years, The Salvation Army Thrift Store for 14 years.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m.- 7:00p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Garner Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Garner Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Lovelace officiating. Burial to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
