Glenda Stanley Rouse

Glenda Jean Stanley Rouse, 78, of Grifton, left this world on November 25, 2023, to join her beloved husband in heaven.  Her battles with several medical issues in recent years showed her courage in facing life always with a smile.  Despite the pain that she endured she was our hero and stayed strong until the end when her heart simply failed her.  We believe she truly died from a broken heart since losing her husband four years ago. 

Glenda was born in Lenoir County on December 26, 1944 to the late William Albert and Bettie Mae Stanley.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William Glenn Stanley. 

She loved her late husband, Jimmy, with all her heart. They were high school sweethearts and that love led the path to a beautiful life together. The two shared an inseparable bond for over 54 years of marriage. Glenda worked for First Citizens Bank during the early years of marriage but decided to be a stay-at-home mom shortly after her daughter started school.  She returned to the bank about 10 years later but eventually decided to stay home to watch and spoil her grandchildren after school.  She had a passion for classic country music and never missed watching the CMAs.  She was a die-hard UNC Tarheels basketball fan and rarely missed any of their games on TV.   She also loved feeding the birds, hummingbirds, and squirrels in her yard every day.  She always had a smile that would light up a room.  Glenda loved talking to folks and would not hesitate to strike up conversations everywhere she went.  And she insisted on fixing her hair and putting on her makeup and lipstick every day, even if she wasn’t going out. 

She is survived by her daughter, Tina Rouse Moore and husband Billy Ray Moore; grandchildren, Jared Scott Moore and Janna Elizabeth Moore and fiancé Zach Turner; a great-grandson, Liam Gray Turner, as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.  

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Garner Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. following visitation with Richard Parker officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
