Gretchen Andrews Hill was born January 19, 1940 in Jones County to Hendrix Andrews and Margaret Koonce Andrews. She passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025 and entered the loving arms of Jesus.
She was a devoted wife of 45 years to love of her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mickey Hill; her son, Jeff Hill; her sisters, Lois (Fred) Fontenot and Donna Engle.
Gretchen was a native of Trenton, NC. She was a member of the graduating Class of 1957 at Jones Central High School where she was the first graduate to receive the Coveted Commercial Award. She was also a member of the Honors Beta Club, and she was a member of the Glee Club where she met the love of her life. Gretchen was a faithful member of Rivermont Baptist Church where she served as a pianist organist, church treasure and the first choir director. Gretchen was an employee of Jake A. Parrott Insurance Agency for over 70 years where she worked with three generations of the Parrott family. Gretchen will be remembered as a hard worker and was full of life and loved with all her heart. She set a wonderful example for others as a Christian and a faithful servant of the Lord. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother and a friend to many.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Jennifer Hill Rouse (Clint) of Morehead City; granddaughters, Tylan Mackel (John) of Morehead City, Rachel Rouse of Morehead City, Rachel Lau (Jia) of Hampstead; grandsons, Zachery Hill of Monroe and Ryan Rouse of Morehead City. She is survived by one niece, Jai Ann Vermon of Missouri; three nephews Greg Fontenot (Maggie), Ted Fontenot (Rashanne) of Texas and Chris Deranger (Janie) of Louisiana.
The visitation will be held at Rivermont Baptist Church from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2025. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor John Morton officiating and assisted by Joey Herring. Graveside service will follow the funeral at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Gretchen Hill on from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. November 6, 2025 and November 7, 2025.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her many caregivers over the years. Special recognition to her niece, Sue Rouse and her granddaughter, Tylan Mackel for being by her side during her battle with cancer. The family would like to thank everyone who has texted, called and the many special visits.
The family request that contributions be made to Rivermont Baptist Church in her name.
Heaven gained another Golden Girl and the best mama. The world has lost one special woman, and we are all so lucky and blessed to have had her in our lives.
