Jack Dempsey Taylor

Jack Dempsey Taylor Kinston-Jack Dempsey Taylor, age 86, of 507 Laroque Avenue died peacefully on May 4, 2013. He was born in Kinston on May 4, 1927 to Samuel Roland Taylor and Blanche Virginia Taylor. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served active combat during the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign (World War II), surviving enemy airstrikes to his ship on two occasions. He also served his country during the Korean War. He was one of those of the "Greatest Generation" of Americans ever produced. He spent the remainder of his career working for the State of NC in the Criminal Justice Division for 30 years until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 29 years, Gaynell Kennedy Taylor; two brothers, Roland Earl Taylor and Robert Lee Taylor; and his sister, Ruby Faye Taylor. Left to cherish his memory, his son, Fred Ingram and wife, Denise of Greenville; daughter, Sylvia Kennedy and husband, Jeff of Chinquapin; grandchildren, Amy Lynn Beach, Chad Mobley, Felicia Cooper, Nicole Ingram; and two great grandchildren, Aubrey and Kendra Cooper; his brothers, Blucher Taylor, MD and wife, Frances of Winston-Salem and Daniel Taylor, Esq. and wife, Rebecca of Troutman, many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive family and friends at Garner Funeral Home on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:00 PM preceding a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM.
