Janice Pike Obituary

Janice Hinson Pike, age 71, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, July 10, 2021. Janice was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, her friends, and service to others. She was born August 6, 1949 in Kinston, NC to Allie and Georgia Hinson. She married Buster Pike, in March of 1976.

Janice loved people and helping others. She worked at Lenoir Memorial Hospital and with Home Healthcare from 1981-1994. She dished out humor, care, and empathy in equal measure. From 1995 until 2007 she served People’s Church in the role of Pastor’s Wife. That was only the beginning though as during those years she worked with both children and youth including writing plays and dinner theatre shows that were enjoyed by all ages. She enjoyed writing and directing them even more than people enjoyed watching them. Janice was born for the stage and had a quick wit and a way with words, interpreting scripture into great scenes. Janice also had a heart for older adults, caring and ministering to them in times of their greatest need.

Ask almost anyone though and they will describe Janice as a person who loved spontaneous adventure. She was quick to jump in the car and take her children to the beach or gather up the camping gear and head for the mountains of western North Carolina and east Tennessee. She had an insatiable desire to travel and explore and was quick to share the memories of her and Buster’s many travel adventures.

Janice is survived by her loving husband Buster Pike; her three sons and their wives Allen and Susie Pridgen, Stacey and Christy Pridgen, and Everett and Shannon Pike, and daughter and her husband, Crystal and Andrew Odom; grandchildren Brandi and Lee Blalock, Taylor Pridgen, Chloe Pridgen, Colton Pridgen and Emma Miller, Logen Cauley and Sarah Landis, Katelyn and Cody Williford, Alexis and Casey Carter, Blake and Briana Hill, Chad Pike, and Tilly Odom; plus great-grandchildren Landon Blalock, Trista Blalock, Courtney Blalock, Kinsley Pridgen, Hudson Williford, Maci Williford, and Averi Carter. She is also survived by sisters Edith White, Joyce Mills and Carolyn Davis. All of these she loved and touched deeply.

Memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at People’s Church with Rev. Jerry Pike and Pastor Buster Pike officiating.

The family will be starting a Memorial Garden at her home in her memory. The family as asked in lieu of flowers, send monetary gifts for her Memorial Garden to Everett “Buster” Pike, 635 Alexander Rouse Road, Kinston, NC 28504.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
