Jesse James Benson

Jesse James Benson, 78, of Kinston passed away on Friday, June, 3, 2022 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Jesse always loved family gatherings and being in a crowd. Catching up with friends while talking on his cell phone was something he enjoyed doing. Even though he had no natural children, he was a father figure and “Papa” to many. He had many hobbies but for 30 years he was a drag racer and for 40 years he bowled. Jesse was an avid Ford engine builder. But out of everything, ministering for the Lord and being a mentor were his favorite things to do.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Minnie Benson.

Left to cherish his memory is his faithful and loving wife of 38 years, Kathy Benson; sister, Brenda Benson Heath and husband Charles; nieces, Angela Brown and husband Rusty, Alicia Lapas and husband Adrian; great nephews, Brandon Brown and wife Jessie, Brody Brown, John Lapas; great niece, Sarah Lapas and fiancé Cody Smith; great great nephew, Hunter Joe Brown; godsons, Tanner Scott, Nicholas Turner and Shane Turner; and numerous cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2022 at Garner Funeral Home with visitation to follow.
