John Barbour Gillette

John B. Gillette was born to the late Daniel and Ruby Gillette of Onslow County. John was an aircraft mechanic for about 30 years at MCAS Cherry Point, and he was considered by people who knew him to be the jack-of-all-trades: he could do just about anything you asked him to do. He was a caring and understanding individual who would help anyone even if it meant that he would lose something in the end.

There were 3 people that he loved the most: Catherine (his wife), Phil (his brother), and Brandon AKA “Gator” which you could consider as John’s son.

John was a simple man who loved his tobacco, sweets, and an ever-full glass of Diet Pepsi. He, seemingly, did not let anything bother him. His last wish was to go out west one more time, but now, he will see all that he wants on this world from Heaven.

John leaves behind his wife Catherine, grandson Brandon Taylor, brother Phil, and family; 4 granddaughters: Jessica Heath Hardy, Taylor Forbes, Samantha Forbes, and Brianna Taylor; 3 stepdaughters: Janine Forbes, Tracy Taylor, and Gloria Taylor.

John will be deeply missed, but the family knows that they will see him again with an always full glass of Diet Pepsi, of course.

We love you, John. You will be greatly missed!

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2022 at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Chris Truett officiating. Burial will be held following the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Onslow Memorial Park, 3280 Richlands Hwy, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
