Johnny “Plowboy” Edward Herring Sr., of 3196 Highway 258 South, age 80, passed away the afternoon of January 30, 2021 at UNC Lenoir Health Care after a long and courageous battle with a rare respiratory disease. Johnny was born on January 18, 1941 in Duplin County. He was the beloved husband of the late Nannie Neal Herring for 52 years, and the cherished father of the late Teresa Herring, the late Johnny “Rusty” Edward Herring Jr. (wife, Shelia Herring), the late Lois “Dinker” Turner (husband, Kevin “Wayne” Turner), and William “Billy” Herring (wife, Christie "June Bug" Herring). He was also blessed with his “other son”, as the family came to lovingly call him – Randy Clark. Johnny was the dear Papa (Grandfather) of Manda Herring, Amber Humphrey (husband, Roger Humphrey), Samantha Herring (fiancé, Joshua Lee), Westley Howard, Johnny “Trey” Herring (Anna Rouse), Mary “Allison” Herring, Justin Herring, and William “Billy” Herring. He was also the proud Bonus-Papa to four step-grandchildren – Jacob, Joseph, Nicholas, and Samantha. Johnny was also blessed to be a Great Grandfather to Brantley, Waylon, Addison, Isaac, and Landon. He was a friend to many, and was the life of any room he entered, always cracking a joke and making others smile. He could school anyone at pool in his golden days, and loved a game of cards. He made an impact on many people’s lives and he will be greatly missed.
Graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 4th at 1pm at Westview Cemetery in Kinston, NC.
