Joyce Koon Cameron

Joyce Koon Cameron, 84, peacefully passed away at her home on August 16, 2022. She was born in Fair Bluff, N.C. on June 22, 1938, to the late Azilee Rikard Koon and James Cecil Koon, Sr.

She was preceded in death by her true love and husband of 60 years, Calvin Angus Cameron, brothers James Cecil “JC" Koon, Jr. and Donald Monroe Koon, and sister Ethlyn Koon Richardson.

Joyce is survived by her loving daughter Karen Cameron Alexander and husband Don of Wake Forest, N.C., grandsons William Cameron Alexander of Dallas, Texas and Pierce Rikard McGaughay Alexander of Raleigh, N.C. and sister, Linda Koon Evans and husband Bob of Robersonville, N.C. Numerous loving nieces and nephews and very special extended family and friends. 

After graduating from Grifton High School in 1956 she continued her education at East Carolina Teaching College graduating in 1960 with a teaching degree. She taught school in Lenoir County for 33 years and enjoyed being a teacher.

As a member of the Sharon United Methodist Church for over 60 years she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and serving on numerous committees.

Her hobbies included reading, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and friend.

The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Sharon United Methodist Church. The Reverend Tyler Moore will officiate. Garner Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
