Melvin R. Ousnamer

Melvin Ousnamer passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on December 22, 2021. He was the son of Bernard J. Ousnamer and Gretchen Poole Ousnamer. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend.  

After Melvin graduated high school, he went straight to work for Brown and Williams Tobacco company and worked as a supervisor until he retired.

Melvin loved the beach, beach music, Tarheel basketball and playing golf, but mostly he loved spending time with his granddaughter Rayleigh. It wasn't unusual to catch him at Chuck E. Cheese with her on a Saturday morning or leaning up against the fence to watch her soccer game on a Tuesday night. He always looked forward to the week that Rayleigh, and his daughter Kristin, and he would spend in Emerald Isle each summer.

He is survived by his daughter, Kristin Yates; son, Brandon Pressly; grandchildren, Rayleigh Goff, Madison Pressly, and Josh Pressly; sister, Margaret Rogers and her husband, Al Rogers; his nephews, Chris Rogers and Michael Rogers; and his caregiver and special friend Diane Ousnamer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard J. Ousnamer and Gretchen Poole Ousnamer. 

A memorial service and visitation for Melvin will be held at Garner Funeral Home, located at 209 W. Peyton Avenue, Kinston, NC, on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 7:00 pm with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the SPCA of Lenoir County.
