Nannie Sutton Deaver, 94, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Indigo Assisted Living in New Bern, NC.
She was from Cove City, but her upbringing was in Bucklesberry, NC. Nannie was a member of the Eastern Star and a very active member of Cove City Christian Church where she taught Sunday School. She loved to volunteer in her community from the voting booths to Fireman’s Day. Nannie was a Town Hall Clerk for Cove City; she also worked at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. She loved to spend many afternoons shopping and her favorite place to shop was Belk. Nannie enjoyed cooking and she passed along her cooking skills to her family.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Joy Farmer (Jeff); husbands, Carl Hawkins and Herman Deaver; sisters, Doris Suggs and Marie Hardy; parents, Harvey and Ava Sutton.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Linda Hawkins Lee of New Bern; son, Curtis Hawkins and wife Debbie of Cove City; grandchildren, Jeremy Lee (Stephanie), Amanda Holsopple (Ryan), Dustin Lee (Andrea), Chris Hawkins (Danielle), Brittany Arthur (Steven), Kimberly Ledbetter (John); great grandchildren, Alexis, Gianna, Peyton, Parker, Tinsley, Brentt, Estella, Eliza, Isaac; numerous nieces and nephews with several special cousins.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Garner Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. follow the visitation with Pastor Calvin Heath officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Cove City Cemetery.
