Patsy Bryan Nicholson Rolland, 74, of Comfort, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at UNC Chapel Hill.
Patsy was born in Kinston and spent her childhood in the family homeplace in Comfort. After high school she moved to Durham, where she worked at the North Carolina Cerebral Palsy Hospital, a time in her life of which she always spoke fondly. Not long after moving to Durham she met Stephen Rolland, whom she later married and shared three children with. Pat, as she was known to her Durham friends and family, spent many years with Blue Cross and Blue Shield and General Telecom before retiring from Verizon in 2004.
A devoted and generous friend to all who knew her, Patsy was happiest in the company of others. Her zest for life was boundless, and she wanted to see and try everything at least once. She faced myriad chronic illnesses with stoicism and grace. Patsy loved to ride to the beach, find a special treasure while out shopping, share her cooking with others, and spend time with the light of her life, her grandson Henry.
Patsy is preceded in death by her mother, Fannie Foster Green Nicholson; father, Hubert Bryan Nicholson, Jr., brothers, Paul Linwood Green and Rawls “Nick” Nicholson.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Jessica Lynn Rolland, of Minneapolis; sons, Joshua Scott Rolland (Jessica George), of Garner, and Justin Adam Rolland (Heather Miller), of Pine Grove; grandson, Henry George Rolland, of Garner; and brother, Ronald Gene Green, of Comfort.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Garner Funeral Home in Kinston. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon following the visitation, with Pastor Lynn Maxwell officiating.
