Ronald Hugh Metts

Ronald Hugh Metts went to his heavenly home early in the morning on May 14th after a hard fought battle with Alzheimer’s.

Ron was born September 21st 1943,  in Kinston, NC to Wilbur Ashley Metts and Anna Elizabeth Quinn. He was the oldest of 5 siblings.  Ron grew up in Jones County where he graduated from Jones Central High school. After high school he served in the United States Air Force and was a proud graduate of East Carolina University. In his later years, Ron served as the Clerk of Superior Court for Jones County for 22 years before retiring, where he was loved and respected by his colleagues and community. 

Ron was a loyal husband to Cathy, a devoted father to Carmen (Erich), Matt (Alex), Melissa (Ben) and Allie (Brad) and a dedicated brother to Gloria, Deborah, Reggie and Angela (Clifton); special aunts, Nan and Amy. He was an uncle to several special Nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. 

He found no greater pleasure in life than to be spending time with his 9 grandchildren. Erica, Ava, Brady, Sadie, Graye, Marleigh, Owen, Clark and Parker

Ron loved people and having deep conversations, he never met a stranger and was kind to everyone he met. He enjoyed traveling and saw many beautiful places around the world. He was an avid ECU sports fan and loved attending football and baseball games with his friends and grandson. He truly loved making special memories with his siblings, and working at the farm with his brother. Often during his down time you would find him working on a crossword puzzle, watching a western or spending time working in the yard.

Cathy and family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at the North Carolina Veterans home in Kinston for their compassionate and tender care of Ron in his final year of life.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday May, 17 at 1pm with a visitation to follow at 902 Church in Kinston with Pastor Ryan Vernon officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association or 902 Church of Kinston.
