Wayne Lee Canterbury, 61, of Dover passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at his home from a long term illness.
He is preceded in death by his, father, Everette Canterbury; grandparents, Ira and Viola Canterbury, William and Nellie Holliday; uncle, Dale Canterbury; father-in-law, Charles “Doke” Honaker.
Wayne was a former lumber inspector and a auctioneer. He more recently owned his own landscaping company before retirement where he enjoyed planting, especially palm trees. Wayne never met a stranger and he loved to talk. He was also an avid West Virginia fan and supporter. But what he loved most was being called Papa. He adored all of his grandchildren. He and his partner in crime, McKenzie shared many crazy and wonderful times together that he would look back on fondly. The few times that he cooked, he loved sharing with people.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 43 years, Theresa Canterbury of the home; mother, Delores Canterbury of Ronceverte, WV; daughter, Ericka Race and husband Edward of Kinston; son, William Canterbury of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren, McKenzie Race, Grady James Canterbury, Aspen Race; brother, Brian Canterbury of Ronceverte, WV; mother-in-law, Linda Honaker; sisters-in-law, Mary LaFon and husband Wayne and Michelle Marcum and husband Todd of WV; brother-in-law, Troy Honaker and wife Vonda of WV; aunt and uncles, Arnold and Lois Morgan of Covington, VA and Denny Canterbury of Organ Cave, WV; numerous nieces and nephews and special nephew, Colten Nickell of Myrtle Beach, SC; special cousin, Dr. Eric Morgan of Maryville, TN; cousins, Randy Morgan and wife Staci, Ray Canterbury, Denise Canterbury and families; fur babies, Dorabella and Dan.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Garner Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter.
